Different Types Of Farm Machinery & What It’s Used For

Updated: May 10, 2021

There are many different types of machinery that have been created to help simplify tasks and keep farms running smoothly. From feed out carts to tractors to combine harvesters, each piece of farm machinery is designed to perform a specific job or jobs to make life easier.

At Willie’s Manufacturing Industries, we make feeders for hay and silage. We have four different brands of feed out carts for sale, and can also work with clients to create custom fabrication of stock crates, hay forks, tractor tow hitches, trailers, and structural steel designs.

In this article, we take a look at several different farm machines and explain a little bit about the tasks they’re created to perform!

Tractors

Tractors are a bit of an all-rounder vehicle. They can be used for a range of different tasks on a farm, with the attachment of agricultural machinery and trailers. For example, feeders can be attached to the back of a tractor and pulled to their desired location. Tractors can also be used in conjunction with other farm equipment for tasks such as ploughing, planting, and tilling.

Hay forks

Also sometimes called bale forks, this implement can be attached to the front of a tractor to help transport hay from one location to another. At WMI, we can manufacture hay forks to suit the individual needs of clients. Contact us today if you’re after a hay fork designed to your specific requirements.

Combine harvesters

Combine harvesters are created for crop harvesting, and can help to simplify the task, as they perform the actions of reaping, threshing, and winnowing. These machines can be given a range of header attachments to complete this process. Some types of headers include those for wheat (draper headers), grain, and pick-up headers, just to name a few.

Headers

Headers can be attached to harvesters, and are used for cutting and harvesting crops. They are also sometimes referred to as combine headers. When choosing a header, it’s best to know what you wish to be using it to cut, as there are several different types of headers out there, designed for use on specific crops. It’s also vital you check the type of harvester you have to ensure you purchase a header that is compatible.

Hay feeders/feed out carts

Hay feeders are used to feed livestock hay and silage. They can be attached to the back of a tractor, and delivered to the area they are required. They come in both large and smaller sizes, for various feeding needs. At WMI, we have a range of feed out carts for sale, including round carriers, plus those that can handle both round and square bales.
